CSMC Implements New Critical Test Management System

Department of Imaging will roll-out Veriphy to
Department of Medicine September 4th

By Barry D. Pressman, MD, FACR
Chair, Department of Imaging

The Imaging Department is undertaking an exciting project called Veriphy in order to facilitate the communication of imaging interpretations to clinicians. Veriphy is a critical test result management system designed to automate, expedite and manage the communication of critical, urgent, and significant patient findings. Imaging will begin implementing the system with a September 4th roll-out to the Department of Medicine.

This system is in use at many large institutions countrywide and has been embraced by clinicians and imaging departments. It is compliant with the JCAHO requirements pertaining to critical result reporting. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Albert Einstein Medical Center and Baylor Health Care System are among the 125 centers that have found Veriphy to enhance patient safety and improve patient outcomes. In Southern California, both UCLA and UCSD have instituted Veriphy.

In addition to critical results, this system is particularly useful for transmitting 'wet readings' and important findings that will require eventual follow-up. Approximately 12 months ago, we successfully tested Veriphy at Cedars-Sinai.

Please be aware that if the initial notification is not retrieved, the second and subsequent notifications will alert back-up devices listed on the clinician's profile. In addition, Vocada Support will begin making live outbound calls directly to the physician's office. If you leave a message referring calls to an alternate physician, Veriphy will contact that physician. If the answering service answers, instructions will be left with them on how to retrieve the message.
