Michael J. Alexander, MD, FACS, is the Director of the multidisciplinary Cedars-Sinai Neurovascular Center involving microsurgery, endovascular therapy, stroke neurology, stereotactic radiosurgery, as well as genetics and epidemiologic studies.

Dr. Alexander is a highly experienced neurosurgeon, board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, with subspecialty expertise in endovascular neurosurgery, as well as vascular and skull base neurosurgery. Dr. Alexander has built a world-class Neurovascular Center at Duke University as the director of the center, and has become one of the busiest endovascular neurosurgeons in the country.

Dr. Alexander earned his medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. He also completed prestigious fellowship training in neurovascular and skull base surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute, in Phoenix and in interventional neuroradiology at UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Alexander is a senior member of the
Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery and currently sits on the executive committee of the society. In 2007, he was listed as one of "America's Top Surgeons" by the Consumers' Research Council of America. His recently published book, Pediatric Neurovascular Disease: Surgical, Endovascular and Medical Management, has received critical acclaim in peer reviewed neurosurgical journals.

Dr. Alexander has an esteemed international reputation, giving invited lectures in Europe, Asia, and across North America regarding his clinical expertise in the treatment of complex aneurysms by minimally invasive techniques, carotid and intracranial artery angioplasty and stenting for the prevention of stroke, and simulator training for endovascular neurosurgery.

Dr. Alexander is committed to educating patients and their families, as well as other physicians through device proctoring and interdisciplinary conferences, and to providing patients with cutting edge treatments for their neurovascular problems with safety and compassion.
