Micro-dose coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is a new approach for selected patients being offered at Cedars-Sinai. Micro-dose CCTA uses prospective gating with imaging during only 1/10 of the cardiac cycle. Micro-dose CCTA assesses coronary stenosis as well as the extent of non-calcified ("soft") plaque and calcified plaque. The study does not provide information about ventricular function. This study is not covered by insurance. Physician prescription is required.
"Micro-Dose" CCTA provides a simplified CCTA examination with 1/10th radiation dose and reduced cost.
The coronary calcium scan cannot visualize non-calcified plaques--plaques more prone to rupture than calcified plaques. "Micro-Dose" CCTA assesses the amount of non-calcified plaque, potentially providing better risk assessment and an opportunity to monitor the effectiveness of therapy. Non-calcified plaques may shrink with effective treatment.
Selected asymptomatic patients being screened for coronary artery disease. Not a test for patients with extensive coronary calcium or arrhythmia.
