
If you see someone having a seizure, try to help them lay down, instead of allowing them to fall. If someone falls during a seizure, they often hit their head on a chair, table or another piece of furniture.
One they are laying down, turn them onto their side, either right or left, to help keep their airway clear.
Then put something flat and soft, such as a folded jacket or blanket under their head.
Loosen ties, collars or anything around the neck to make breathing easier.
DO NOT place your hand or any objects in their mouth. It can cause injuries to you or to the individual's teeth or jaw. A person having a seizure, CANNOT swallow their tongue.
If a seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, call 9-1-1 for emergency assistance.
If you have seizures, you should avoid:
You can, however, swim, if you keep a friend nearby or wear a life vest.
You should also keep an up-to-date list of the medications you are taking, as well as any dietary supplements.
DO NOT change the dosage of your medication without consulting with your physician and DO NOT stop taking your anti-epileptic medication abruptly.
