
Sayed Mohammed Hossein Sadrzadeh, PhD, is the Director of Clinical Chemistry and the Scientific Director of the Core Laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai.
Dr. Sadrzadeh is a widely recognized clinical chemist and scientist who has authored over 55 peer reviewed articles as well as several book chapters and monographs. His current research interests are focused on the role of iron, hemoglobin and haptoglobin in initiating or modulating oxidative stress and eventual tissue injury, for which he has been funded by NIH, JDRF and several other funding agencies. He also directs clinical projects aimed at developing new markers and methods for clinical laboratory. Dr. Sadrzadeh has been invited to speak at regional, national and international venues, and has been visiting professor at Tehran and Mashhad University in Iran. He is a reviewer for many scientific and clinical journals.
Certified in clinical chemistry by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and the National Registry in Clinical Chemistry, Dr. Sadrzadeh has directed clinical chemistry/toxicology laboratories at different institutions for over 20 years. As a former director of graduate and postdoctoral fellowship programs, he has devoted most of his academic life to medical education. He has served as the chair for the northeast and northwest sections of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, where he was a member of the organizing committee. He also has been an organizing committee member for the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians, commissioner for the for accreditation of clinical chemistry training programs, and member of the board of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, as well as holding prominent roles in other national organizations.
Dr. Sadrzadeh earned a bachelor's degree from University of Isfahan in Iran, a master's in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and a doctorate in pathobiology from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. This was followed by two years of postdoctoral training in clinical chemistry in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle.
