Scott Cunneen, MD

Co-Director, Center for Weight Loss

Scott A. Cunneen, MD, is Co-Director of the Center for Weight Loss at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. This program brings together two areas of excellence at Cedars-Sinai: minimally invasive surgery and weight management.

Dr. Cunneen previously served as Associate Director of Surgical Critical Care and Trauma and Assistant Director of the Surgical Residency Program at Cedars-Sinai.

In addition to serving on a variety of committees at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Cunneen is active in several professional organizations. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Association of Program Directors in Surgery and the American, California and Los Angeles medical associations.

Dr. Cunneen has written a number of articles and presentations on a variety of subjects, including post-transplantation intensive care and care for patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Cunneen holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame, a master's degree in physiology from Georgetown University and a master's degree in human nutrition from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University, where he was awarded membership in the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha in 1989. He served his internship and residency in general surgery at the Cedars-Sinai's Department of Surgery. In 1995 he was named Chief Resident in the Department of Surgery, and in 1997 he completed a fellowship in surgical critical care.
