Electroencephalogram (EEG)
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is used to diagnose neurologic diseases, such as seizures and epilepsy. The test measures the electrical activity of the brain waves.
Simple and painless, the first part of the test involves pasting about 20 small electrodes to the scalp and recording the brain's activity under normal conditions.
Ambulatory EEGs and can be given on an outpatient basis, either in the hospital, doctor's office or a clinic.
Video EEG is the simultaneous recording of EEG with video. This is typically performed in our Epilepsy Monitoring Unit to localize seizures but is also used in patients with coma or to differentiate seizures from other events. These patients may be monitored for days. The events are logged by the nursing staff, as well as a computerized automated seizure detection program.
