Cedars-Sinai/VA Greater Los Angeles Fellowship Training Program in Cardiovascular Diseases

The primary goal of the Cedars-Sinai/VA Greater LA Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Program is to provide the trainee with the basic and clinical knowledge, procedural skills, clinical judgment, professionalism and interpersonal skills required as a specialist in cardiovascular disease. Specifically, we aim to a) teach the knowledge, skills, clinical judgment, attitudes, and values that are essential to cardiovascular medicine; b) foster humanistic and ethical attributes in our trainees; c) encourage an appropriate balance between academic and research endeavors and clinical service; and d) develop teaching skills by actively engaging our trainees in teaching activities with medical students, residents, and allied health professionals.

The program has a strong emphasis on balancing clinical training with investigative training. It is a three-year program with two years of clinical training in general cardiology, cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, noninvasive cardiac imaging, electrophysiology, heart failure and transplantation, and preventive cardiology, and up to one year of investigative training in basic sciences and clinical cardiology. Advanced ACGME-certified subspecialty training in Electrophysiology and Interventional Cardiology is currently available and non-ACGME-certified training in Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation, and Cardiac Imaging is also available.

We are excited about the planned integration of the Department of Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System program into our fellowship, starting July 2008. The VA Greater Los Angeles is the largest and most complex health care system within the VA network. The VA Cardiology Training Program has an excellent track record in providing rich academic environment including medical training and educational and research opportunities. The integrated fellowship program will provide excellent, comprehensive training in a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic groups with a diversity of medical problems.
