Cynthia C. Nast, MD is Co-Director of the Residency Program in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai. She is also Professor of Pathology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, Dr. Nast is a nationally recognized authority in the study of the pathology of the kidney, with emphasis on the transplanted kidney, and she has extensive experience in all aspects of renal biopsy interpretation. She currently is co-investigator on several grants, actively working on the genetics of diabetic renal disease and mechanisms of proteinuria. She also performs investigative work in renal transplantation.
Dr. Nast has published in excess of 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as numerous invited papers and book chapters. She is a frequent reviewer for many journals, belongs to several professional societies, and currently is a member of the Postgraduate Education Committee of the American Society of Nephrology.
Dr. Nast received her medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. She completed an internship in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center. She began her pathology residency at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center and completed her residency and a fellowship in renal pathology in the Department of Pathology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
