
Ajay K. Ananda, MD is an attending neurosurgeon with the Department of Neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Ananda specializes in complex spinal surgery and functional neurosurgery, particularly stereotactic radiosurgery and the surgical treatment of epilepsy, pain and movement disorders (such as Parkinson's disease and tremor). He is also a member of the Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders.
Dr. Ananda is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He co-authored a chapter on teardrop fractures of the cervical spine for the Textbook of Neurosurgery.
Dr. Ananda received his bachelor's degree from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he majored in neuroscience and authored an honor's thesis in the use of recombinant DNA technology for synthesizing more effective drugs in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). While at UCSD he was actively involved in ongoing research in the area of traumatic brain injury, working with Dr. Lawrence Marshall. Dr. Ananda completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in neurological surgery at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
