Jean Lopategui, MD

Director, Molecular Pathology; flow cytometry

Jean Lopategui, MD is the Director of Molecular Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA. Dr. Lopategui previously served as director of hematopathology, flow cytometry and diagnostic molecular pathology at Cedars-Sinai as ewell as at Impath, and he was the acting director of flow cytometry at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California.

Dr. Lopategui's primary areas of research interest include engineered antibodies in cancer therapy and genetic mutations in hematologic diseases. He has a strong interest in the application of flow cytometry to the diagnosis of hematologic disorders and has been invited to speak in these areas nationally.

Dr. Lopategui is board certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology, with subspecialty certification in hematology. He is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and is a member of numerous other societies.

Dr. Lopategui received his medical degree from Marseilles Medical School in France. He completed a rotating internship at University Hospital, Aix-Marseilles, France and a pathology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC and Tufts University in Boston. After a year of research in molecular pathology at Tufts, Dr. Lopategui also completed a fellowship in hematopathology and surgical pathology at City of Hope National Medical Center.
