Hand Surgery Program

Dramatic advances have been made in recent years in treating patients with hand injuries, degenerative disorders and birth defects of the hand. Cedars-Sinai hand specialists Myles J. Cohen, MD, David A. Kulber, MD and Stuart Kuschner, MD specialize improving the function and appearance of hands that have been injured, have birth defects or degenerative disorders.

Affiliated with both
Cedars-Sinai Medical Group and the Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center, they also collaborate with other premier Cedars-Sinai services such as the Outpatient Rehabilitation Center to provide the most comprehensive patient care available.

This information is designed to give you a basic understanding of the most common hand problems:what they are, what plastic surgeons can do for them, and the results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since each problem is unique and a great deal depends on your individual circumstances. Please be sure to ask your doctor if there is anything about a procedure you don't understand.

Conditions treated by the Hand Surgery Program include:

  • Birth defects
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Dupuytren's contracture
  • Hand injuries
  • Recovery and rehabilitation after hand surgery
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Trigger finger

Among the treatments offered by the hand surgeons at the Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center are:

  • Skin grafting
  • Flap surgery
  • Replantation or transplantation of fingers or hands
  • Carpal tunnel release surgery
  • Surgery to repair or reconstruct hands, wrists or fingers disabled by rheumatoid arthritis
  • Surgery to correct Dupuytren's contracture
  • Surgery to correct birth defects of the hands and fingers
  • Surgery to correct trigger finger
